The overall aim of the project “Online Reflective Writing in Higher Education and Lifelong Learning” (ORWELL) is to support digital writing skills in higher education. Today, more than ever, students are immersed in a technology-rich environment that offers opportunities to improve and support fundamental skills such as writing. Within the framework of this project, the term “digital” is interpreted in two ways: (i) students need to learn how to write in digital environments, and (ii) students need to learn how to use digital tools to support the writing process.
The project’s specific objectives are:
To support higher education educators in improving students’ writing skills through the use of technologies across different academic disciplines.
To support higher education students’ writing skills in digital spaces.
To promote and support collaborative writing practices.
Flip & Write: Identifying best practices in higher education for promoting writing skills through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). While the project will provide new tools to support individual and collaborative digital writing skills across academic disciplines, it is important to identify practices that demonstrate how digital writing can take shape within a specific field or domain.
Examples of digital writing practices for each main academic field (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, applied sciences)
Exchange of good practices among educators from different universities
Identification and redefinition of overlooked aspects of digital writing
Writing LAB: Creating a digital learning environment for implementing the “Writing to Learn and Reflect Lab” workshop. Specifically, training will be provided on how to write argumentative texts. This activity involves students writing while consulting diverse sources on the same topic, in order to support their own personal viewpoint.
Collaborative Writing: Strengthening collaborative writing skills. Students are often asked to work together on shared documents, which makes it essential to adopt appropriate strategies to ensure equal participation and shared responsibility. To support this, the deliverable will include a visualisation of the text-editing process by pairs of students as they co-write an assignment.
